Ear Hurter

I made an 'Ear Hurter'.

It doesn't really hurt (or maybe I just got used to this sound). It just tickles.
I tried this on my friends and they didn't grab their ears in pain and roll around the floor or anything like that.

I got a little curious, so got an oscilloscope app (i don't have a real one) and I got the waveform of this annoying sound. Here's how it looks like:

Now I'm not a physics major or anything (at least for now), but I know those thick green parts are what's causing this irritation. The rest is probably noise. If anybody can explain this better than me, be my guest.


I also made a resolution to make schematics for all circuits I make. It's so easy thanks to SparkFun's EAGLE library. Here is the schematic for this (simple) circuit:

Atari Punk Console

I made a minimal Atari Punk Console. The schematic is in the link I just linked. The video is below.

I used the new slide potentiometers I got.

I had to try out the NE556 IC. Here is a very good webpage out it (and the 555 IC)

Dice

After a depressing day, I wanted to make something cool. I had a project that was in my mind for about a year. I've actually tried this before, but I failed and incinerated some diodes. This is somewhat a comeback.   I heavily used the schematic from the Electronics Club. This place has some awesome and simple projects waiting for electronic hobbyists. I thought there should be some more visuals to this project, so I added a 555 monostable circuit to keep scrolling through these numbers until the monostable circuit stops. I also added some potentiometers instead of the resistors for the 'scrolling' speed control. Tip: facial tissue is a good light diffuser. So to get things straight: 555 Monostable ---> 555 Astable ---> 4017 Counter [that resets after 6 counts]   There aren't much changes to the original schematic, but if you can't figure it out yourself, give me an email or comment (I'm lonely).

Opto-isolator (Photo Coupler) Tester

I tested it with an LM317 regulator and and LED running on about 2.5 volts.  Since the LM317's reference voltage is 1.15 volts, I can drive this Opto-isolator with no fear. I wonder if this support analog signals.

Cassete Tape Player Motor Hack

I opened up a cassette tape player and I found a motor. It runs on 6 volts so I set up a LM317 regulator to 5.99 V volts and added speed and direction control (wow long sentence).

Toy Traffic Signal

This is for a toy. So you can use an RC car and pretend you're driving (Yay). For more accuracy, I will be making a Traffic Signal with an Arduino.

4026 IC 9999 Counter

Yesterday I made a 4026 IC 9999 Counter with the four 4026 IC's that came yesterday from Tayda Electronics. I bought six, but I didn't have enough 7-segments to make a 6 digit counter.
To cascade these IC's, I just connected all the reset, display enable in, display enable out, ungated 'C' segment out, clock inhibit pins together and added some switches, and connected the carry outs to the next IC's clock input.

8 Step Sequencer

First 'Real' Post...

Made an 8 Step Sequencer with a two 555 timers and a 4017 decade divider.
I used the first timer as a low frequency astable oscillator. I could make it a 10 step sequencer, but I thought 8 would be more rhythmic (think about time signatures).
Then, I used the other two timers to make an Atari Punk Console (Stepped Tone Generator). 


If you want the schematic, google for 

  • baby 10 step sequencer
  • atari punk console

Connect the sequencer's CV output to the Atari Punk Console's first oscillator's CV input (pin 5)*
To make the 10 step to an 8 step, connect the 4017's Q8 to Reset.
